Who We Are

Mission Statement
To encourage diversity andfreedom of expression by citizens in the public, educational and government access community through the
provision of training, facilities and

cablecast time.

Freedom of expression is one of our fundamental rights under our system of government in the United States as stated in the Bill of Rights and the United States Constitution. One of these rights is free speech. Here in Brockton our city government in the early 1980's felt that it was important for all residents to express their point of view through their local community television station.

The 1981 Issuing Authority Report created Brockton Community Cable Television (BCCT). "There will be a permanent, independent, non-profit corporation on cable television which will, among other responsibilities, coordinate and monitor public access to the cable television system." Continental Cablevision (now Comcast) was granted the right to sell cable television service in Brockton and the residents were given local channels and access television was born! BCCT has been granted the authority to develop operating rules and policies for the utilization of facilities and channel capacity, for hiring qualified individuals to assist in the development of local access programming and for developing training programs.

An eleven member Board of Directors is appointed by the Mayor of Brockton The Board operates under the revised BCCT By-laws. The video equipment and facilities provided for access television are used by trained Brockton residents. Acting as independent volunteers they produce programs of their choice which are cablecast within the community on Channels 9, 12 and 98. BCCT is also known as Brockton Community Access (BCA) to differentiate us from the cable company and to provide us our channel identity. We are now more than 20 years old and continue to meet the needs of the community.
