Grecian Melodies. “Grecian Melodies” began fifteen years ago when Steve Demos, now producer of the program, had a conversation with Betsy Zoulas of Continental Cable. There were a few ethnic programs in existence on the local television station, but not of the Grecian variety. Betsy asked Steve Demos, if he would be interested in hosting his own program to bring exposure of the Greek culture to the community. Soon thereafter, “Grecian Melodies” was born.

Past Shows: Among the favorite shows conducted of the past was a visit to the Heinz Convention Center with the Patriarch of Demetrios. Mr. Demos was in charge of the videography, which he states was “clearly an honor”. Another highlight was doing a show with Mike Dukakis while the former governor was running for President of the United States. Steve found Mr. Dukakis to be a very clever and intelligent man. Of all of Steve’s favorite things to cover, he really enjoys covering the Greek Independence Parade in Boston in the springtime each year.

Upcoming Shows: There will be an interview with the General Consulate of Greece as well as airing messages from the Archbishop of Demetrios of New York. These issues are an important aspect in maintaining the customs within the Greek-American community by communicating them to their youth. Also happening in 2004 in Greece are the 2004 Olympics. Be sure to watch for the special edition of Grecian Melodies that will cover that event!

The Message: “Grecian Melodies” is refreshing because it is bi-lingual, while Steve speaks in Greek & English about promoting the Greek Culture and civilization to our community.
