The 67th Annual Strand Theatre Fire Memorial

There are certain things we all take for granted as citizens of this great city.  For example, when we dial 911 we know that Brockton’s emergency services will be there for us – continuing the fine tradition set forth by their predecessors.  Well at a time before we could dial 911 for help, dozens of Brockton’s firefighters responded when an alarm went out because the Strand Theatre was burning.  These firefighters fearlessly responded to their duty – and thirteen of them would provide the ultimate service and sacrifice.

Women of the Year

Recently five Brockton women were honored for their volunteerism, and one for her courage, by the Brockton Commission on Women’s Issues.  Rev. Naomi Burton, Joyce Jacobs, Virginia Jeppson, Jaki Jones, & Marilyn Thomson all received the honor of being named Women of the year.  In addition to the five Women of the Year, a special award was presented to Marcia Fernandes as the 2008 Woman of Courage.
