Brockton Public Schools
Math and Science Camp |
The first-ever
Vacation Math & Science Camp was held for 4th
through 6th graders at the Arnone
School during February vacation. The
program was designed to provide students with
hands-on math and science lessons that generated
interest and enthusiasm in those subjects.
The camp was run in partnership with the Fuller
Craft Museum, whose artists and program
directors helped direct fun and interesting
lessons that truly inspired students.

Black Heritage Month
USPS Stamps Display |
The United States
Post Office (USPS) recently unveiled its 28th
recipient to be depicted on a postage stamp.
This years winner was Marian Anderson and here in
Brockton the USPS put on a display for her and
past winners in the series. 1NM talks with
Postmaster Steven Lachapelle and Window
Superintendent Tony Narviscis about their
three part exhibit.

Century Learning Centers present:
Harriet Tubman |
Celebrating Black
History Month, the 21st Century Learning Centers
of Brockton recently sponsored a one-woman
performance of the life of Harriet Tubman.
Almost one hundred parents and students turned out
for the dynamic performance. We talk to the
actor portraying Tubman, Courtney Adams,
and the some of the organizers to get a feel for
what the night was all about. In addition,
this segments marks the first appearance of new
host Sasha Link.

Commissioner Mike Thoreson sits down in the
interview seat of BCA's 1NMQ&A and answers
questions concerning the departments he oversees,
trash removal, misconceptions of the DPW, and
shares why someone would peruse a career in
engineering or the Public Works.

Annual African Festival and Marketplace Highlights

Returning for the
eighth straight year the Annual African Festival
and Marketplace was held in Brockton, and for the
second year in a row it was held at the War
Memorial Building. We show highlights of the
extravaganza with commentary from organizer
Jackie Jones and Brockton Director of
Cultural Affairs Gayle Kelley.
